Ophiuchus Tips for Astrologers ~ Mars

Humanity is not the only form of life evolving to meet the demands of a coming New Age.  Quantum adjustments to the planetary frequencies in our Solar System have been going into effect since the galactic gateway opened to facilitate the Harmonic Convergence in 1987. 

Now that Constellation Ophiuchus has officially been introduced into mainstream consciousness as of January 13, 2011, it is finally time to catch up with the changes that are affecting everyone who makes use of the celestial oracles.  This post initiates a series of essays designed to assist Astrologers and Astrology-users in navigating the new starry landscape.  I will be offering these essays as material comes to mind that needs to be released to make room for more to come.

Ophiuchus Harmonic Convergence 1987

I don’t expect anyone to swallow the information I’m sharing hook, line and sinker.  There has been far too much of that going on around here for far too long as it is.  So I will show you where I get my information and let you decide for yourself whether this work has the ring of authenticity about it or not. 

Let’s start with the sign given to us by Saturn the Initiator, Co-Ruler of Aquarius and the Ruler of the House and Constellation-Sign of Professions, Big Business, Government, Politics, and the World Stage: Capricornus. 

At right is a screen capture of Saturn transiting Constellation Ophiuchus on August 16, 1987.  Saturn was winding up a retrograde transit at the time.  By August 16 she was in Countdown mode, slowing down and getting ready to change direction again on August 20.

I want to show you something else while we’re at it.  Here (below) are screen captures of August 17 and August 20, 1987 side-by-side showing you the likelihood that the date of the Harmonic Convergence was mis-predicted by 3 days.  The day Saturn went into Direct motion again in Constellation Ophiuchus was the date the Harmonic Convergence was complete.  You can’t see it here, but the Moon was in Constellation Gemini between the Twins, aligned with Alpha Canis Major, Sirius.  That placement is fraught with cosmic significance.  If you’re an Astrologer you will not need me to chant the meanings to you — you will already know.

Kinda looks like the Inner Ring planets are making a little Leo the Love Lion paw-print there, doesn’t it? 

I’m going to take it that these two celestial Opening Statements are sufficient to demonstrate the point I’m trying to make.  If anyone has any questions, feel free to leave a Comment or e-mail me off-list.  Meanwhile, I’m going to get on with the project of introducing updates to the Astrological lexicon, starting with Mars since he’s the one who has come first to mind today.  And probably with good reason as Mars rules Ophiuchus’s neighboring Zodiac sign Scorpio and hence occultly symbolizes any and all creatures related to the scorpion, including snakes.

Mars as a Serpent in the context of Ophiuchus the Serpent Holder

I’m taking you back in time now to Ancient Greece between 500 BCE and 500 CE.  Whenever the Greek god of healing Asclepius was petitioned to come down out of the stars where Zeus put him and be of service to a patient he would take the form of a serpent.   That is in fact how Asclepius was transported to Rome in 293 BCE.  The Roman Emperor sent his emissaries to Epidaurus to petition the god Asclepius to come heal Rome and her citizens of a plague that had enveloped the city.  As the story goes, the Romans were making their supplications and offerings when they saw a giant Serpent make its way onto the ship, ready to be taken to Rome.  This was not just any giant serpent; it was the Great Serpent of Epidaurus.  And as the ship docked off shore at the tiny island marking the entrance to the Tiber River, the giant snake slipped over the side and swam to shore marking the spot where the Roman Temple to Aesculapius was to be built.  The temple was built and Asclepius cured the city of plague.

Budding Astronomologers Tip #1

Mars is a Serpent of Wisdom capable of transporting Ophiuchus around the Zodiac Belt either to bring his or her presence into a newly built Temple or to make housecalls on people and remote places outside the House of Ophiuchus.

Healing & Transforming Mars

Healing Mars and facilitating his Ascension to Sacred Planet status will take some doing, but it can be done.  It’s all about consciousness, and don’t you think that’s probably the reason why there is such a battle going on over who is going to control the Earth planet and her Humanities?  You betcha!  So let’s just get about our work and let the chips fall where they may.  The Human Mind is a terrible thing to waste!

Mars in Aries in the context of Ophiuichus and the Serpent makes Mars’ next form inevitable.  Serpent + Fire = Kundalini.

That was easy.  The next order of business won’t be so simply resolved.

Taurus and Scorpio are the two money signs of the Zodiac.  Taurus earns the money and tries to hold on to it; Scorpio inherits the money when you die and leave it to him; he also pursues your money and riches to acquire them by whatever means, usually dark.  You Scorpios, if you’re shaking your head and saying no way, I’m a Scorpio and we’re not like that, I would agree.  99% of you are celestial Libra or Virgo, believe it or not.

Because Mars rules the sign of Scorpio he is by tradition in detriment in Taurus.  The detrimental influence of Mars in Taurus unless it is offset will adversely affect our initiative to budget and manage money, be responsible and honest on the job and as parents, honor love with fidelity, and protect the sacred ground our family calls ‘Home’.

While Mars is transiting Taurus without a favorable alignment to counteract his detrimental effect (which is how we will probably feel for most of the Martial month of Taurus), we chafe under restraints and contend we’ve been victimized and are powerless over events that have taken away our job, money, home, family security, savings and stuff.  If Mars in Taurus continues to create the same sort of tension and damages he has in the past, there will be no relief in sight. 

But there is currently on the table in these transitional times a work of celestial alchemy, a transmutation of the scorpion that has been giving us grief into the lofty eagle representing our higher – Ascended – god selves.  Once the alchemy is completed, we will be able to rely on our Eagle selves to act altruistically and order will be restored in our lives.  But in the meantime, while we wait for more humanities to wake up …

Hathor - Sethi

The Mars Spiritual Warrior in us is transforming our fears into courage — the courage to respond to the sound of our calling.  This is probably the best and most noble quality of Mars (rechanneling anger into courage and responding to our calling instead of reacting to an annoyance). Combining the keywords of Taurus (I Have) and Mars (Courage) and using the Taurean sensory gateway (Hearing), the new sound goes like this:  I Have the Courage to Respond to the Sound of my own Calling.  The exercise of this spiritual muscle (Mars is exercise and muscle) will be transforming and transmutational.  The individual or situation bearing such a planetary placement will begin to pull itself out of the mire that has resulted in a state of being stuck.

For those who are currently jobless or about to be cast adrift at home or at work, effective change in your life must break the rules of the old game.  You will no longer be working against the odds.  Everything is changing.  If the industry you’re in is shrinking or shutting down, don’t go down with the ship.  Find an industry that has a future.  Be sure the new line of work you get into contributes positive value to the sustainable planet ideal or the new world economy will not be able to support it.  Has anyone noticed the produce section of the major grocery stores at least in the U.S. are opening Organically Grown sections?  It’s happening.  Think Green!

The result of our internal work will be to mandate a set of new rules of behavior for Mars in this sign-constellation.  We will have accomplished this using the intermediating shamanic power of the 13^th sign, the serpent bearer, whose animal totem the serpent (Mars) is the third member of the mystic scorpion-serpent-eagle trinity needed to complete the transmutation alchemy.

The transmutation of a sign can only be effected through the vehicle of its voice, the celestial intelligence of its domain, which for Scorpio is planet Mars.  To retune Mars and complete the alchemy of change from scorpion to eagle, have the courage to turn your most problematic situation around by taking action on a lofty, altruistic intention.

When the Mars in us resonates to the new tone of service, the higher vibration of light-sound emitted by Mars will become more attractive to a greater number of people on this planet.  Mars is physically made of iron and his alchemical element is iron as well.  Iron is magnetic.  The more people link to Mars on the higher more noble frequency, the more people in the domain of Mars will be reached and turned to align with us and with him.

When Mars aligns with Beta Perseus, “Algol,” the star most often associated with the Head of the Gorgon Medusa, an interesting new transformation takes place. 

The Gorgon Medusa’s hair is made of snakes.  Because Mars takes on serpentine qualities as ruler of Scorpio, and knowing his affinity for fire (as ruler of Aries) and in view of his alliance with Ophiuchus (serpent power), we envision Mars and the Medusa as allies, serpents everywhere, and all of it kundalini serpent power - spiritual fire.  As an acknowledged ally of Ophiuchus the Serpent Holder, Mars the serpentine becomes distinguished: a Serpent of Wisdom, no longer unfriendly in Taurus, and no longer in need of lopping off the head of the Gorgon Medusa in order to use her power.  All he needs to do is ask her for help and she will give it to him. 

Medusa Nebula, Abell 21 | Constellation Gemini The Medusa Nebula Credit & Copyright: Don Goldman Explanation: Braided, serpentine filaments of glowing gas suggest this nebula’s popular name, The Medusa Nebula. Also known as Abell 21, this Medusa is an old planetary nebula some 1,500 light-years away in the constellation Gemini. Like its mythological namesake, the nebula is associated with a dramatic transformation. The planetary nebula phase represents a final stage in the evolution of low mass stars like the sun, as they transform themselves from red giants to hot white dwarf stars and in the process shrug off their outer layers. Ultraviolet radiation from the hot star powers the nebular glow. The Medusa’s transforming hot central star is visible in the detailed color image as the small blue star within the upper half of the overall bright crescent shape. Fainter filaments clearly extend above and to the left of the bright crescent region. The Medusa Nebula is estimated to be over 4 light-years across.

With these old nagging Mars-in-Taurus issues resolved, maybe we can get back to work and clean up our home planet.  Worthy Taurean pursuits indeed!
